Red Maple Chinese Restaurant

My Mom and I went on one of our 'adventures' last night. She had been to the restaurant with her friends earlier and wanted to take me. It's located off of Redwood Road, a gem of the west side.

Everything was so great! The food, the people, the service, the atmosphere! You can even schedule private parties and have karaoke! (They don't have a karaoke night, but its because it can get very loud and they don't want to disturb anyone who came for a nice quiet dinner.)

We did the dinner combination plates. Both a salad AND soup are included and they have several entree options. My mom is a fan of the sweet and sour shrimp, I had orange peel chicken. We had noodles AND fried rice, all for about $10!

Shout out to Faustina our server and the cute busboy who flirted and called us 'girls', you made my mom's day!

Fidelity in Marriage

(I am not currently married, but have been. I find this article to be invaluable to those who choose to commit to each other in marriage. You don't have to believe what I believe, but there is goodness and truth here if you like.)

***Article Excerts****
When a spouse has developed a relationship that compromises his or her spiritual fidelity, he or she should be humble and take the necessary steps to restore the marital relationship.

President Ezra Taft Benson (1899–1994) said, “What does it mean to love someone with all your heart? It means to love with all your emotional feelings and with all your devotion.”

Relationships with others of the opposite sex are not in and of themselves a problem or a fracture of fidelity. In fact, many of our meaningful relationships with neighbors, Church friends, co-workers, and others have a balanced and important place in our lives. However, there is a danger zone that people may cross into if they are not watchful. As in the case with Jane and Aaron, compromising on spiritual fidelity can create emotional heartbreak, distrust, and marital conflict. If not corrected, this can lead to physical infidelity.

We should be careful not to allow relationships even to begin to develop inappropriately. As Paul warned, “Abstain from all appearance of evil” (1 Thessalonians 5:22).

Not only our actions relative to other people, but also our thoughts must be guarded. As Alma explained, our thoughts and words must be pure because we shall be judged for our thoughts as well as our actions, good or ill (see Alma 12:12–15; see also 2 Nephi 9:39; Mosiah 4:30; D&C 88:109).

“The family is ordained of God. Marriage between man and woman is essential to His eternal plan. Children are entitled to birth within the bonds of matrimony, and to be reared by a father and a mother who honor marital vows with complete fidelity. … We warn that individuals who violate covenants of chastity, who abuse spouse or offspring, or who fail to fulfill family responsibilities will one day stand accountable before God.”

The Family: A Proclamation to the World, Ensign, Nov. 1995, 102.

There are those married people who permit their eyes to wander and their hearts to become vagrant, who think it is not improper to flirt a little, to share their hearts and have desire for someone other than the wife or the husband. The Lord says in no uncertain terms: “Thou shalt love thy wife with all thy heart, and shalt cleave unto her and none else” (D&C 42:22).

And, when the Lord says all thy heart, it allows for no sharing nor dividing nor depriving. And, to the woman it is paraphrased: “Thou shalt love thy husband with all thy heart and shalt cleave unto him and none else.”

The words none else eliminate everyone and everything. The spouse then becomes preeminent in the life of the husband or wife, and neither social life nor occupational life nor political life nor any other interest nor person nor thing shall ever take precedence over the companion spouse.

Spencer W. Kimball, Faith Precedes the Miracle (1972), 142–43.

Questions to Consider

Successful marriages benefit from honest personal assessment of our relationships—both with our spouses and with others. In evaluating whether you have need for improved spiritual fidelity, ask yourself the following questions.

• “Are you turning to your friend for comfort rather than turning to your spouse?”

• “Do you find yourself thinking about your friend even when you’re at home?”

• “Do you seek opportunities to be with your friend even when work doesn’t require you to be together?”

• “Do you e-mail and text your friend when you’re not together?”

• “Have you told your spouse about these messages?”

• “Does the relationship with your friend take more of your time and energy than your relationship with your spouse?”

• “Do you compare your spouse to your friend?”

• “Would you be uncomfortable introducing your spouse to your friend?”

Depending on how you answer these questions, you may need to make some changes in your life. Consider an open and honest conversation with your spouse—being sure to focus on yourself and not the other person.

Prayer is our only hope!

(Copy/Paste of an email I received)

Prayer is our only hope! I'm In!!!!
================= This was seen on a sign in Texarkana, there were signs in people's yardsthat said, "America, prayer our only hope" with 2 Chron. 7:14underneath. We certainly need God's help! I have no idea who started this, but I certainly agree with this e-mail.I heard a preacher on TV tonight that said if will pray for our nationthat things will turn around. After a day of contemplation and soul searching, I have decided to reachout to my friends and relatives and ask you to do something that hasbeen troubling me for a long time. Our nation is/has been on the slippery slope for a long time. If youlook around you will find corruption, greed, moral decay, and a steadymove away from the things that made us great. The principles upon whichthis nation was founded are no longer our backbone. However, we canreverse this trend. 2 Chron. 7:14 In God's word He states, "If my people who are called bymy name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn fromtheir wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive theirsin and heal their land." I am convinced that we must pray for our nation and its leaders and askfor forgiveness. So I ask you to join me in this plea to our Lord. Would you please send this to some people in your address book; ask themto pray EVERYDAY. (25 to only the 5th power is 9,765,625 people.)IMAGINE if each person reaches TEN others...or all TWENTY FIVE! If you do and they comply, we will lift up millions and millions ofprayers a day to our Creator. He will hear us and in faith will answer. Let me just add a quote from Ronald Reagan "If we ever forget that weare one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under." I trulybelieve this is why the United States of America is in the shape we arein today. Most people have forgotten that we are one nation under God!Let us as Christians stand up and remind people of this.

Today is the day before tomorrow...

So I am trying to do some small bit of good in the world - aside from being here to make ya'll laugh! - and help raise some funds for MDA. The fundraiser ends tomorrow with a 20's themed lockup. I am supposed to 'raise my bail'.

...it's not going as I had thought it would. With a month of flooding my networks with posts, I have raised a whopping $40. The goal was $2400. I feel a little guilty letting them buy me lunch. They want me to "bring your rolodex" and call people from the event to bring money for my bail... The problem is, everyone I know has a tight pocketbook right now. Even me! (I really can't even sponsor myself here! Had to fix my car the other day... can you say, credit card debt?)

How does one make a difference? The addage goes that if we all do a little it helps a lot, but what if we can't even manage the little? Good intentions and all that...

I won't give up! I will continue! I can make a positive impact!

Join me?!

Women's Self Defense Class tomorrow!

If you are planning on coming to the class Thursday night, there are a few items to know:-The class starts at 7:30 but I put 7:15 as the start time so that we can get people signed up and be ready to start at 7:30

-Bring comfortable clothes (workout clothes preferred).

-Please don't bring infants for the babysitters to watch. They would love it, but I'm afraid they wouldn't be able to handle them and still watch the other children.

-Please DO bring your kids (toddlers and up) if you couldn't get your hubby to keep them home. We won't charge for babysitting this week, the subsequent weeks we will charge $1 per kid.

-The class is to be held in the Prosperity Learning Center on 6947 S. 900 E. in Midvale. It is on the East side of the street, brown brick building.

-Please bring as many friends as you want. The class is fun on its own, but more fun with friends with whom you are comfortable.

-Your shoes should be comfortable and flexible.

Please drop me a line if you have any questions. sifu@kungfuutah.com

Cheese Fries, Meet Your Match!

POPLAR STREET PUB - 242 South 200 West, Salt Lake City, UT 84101-1801; 801-364-1061
Open for lunch!

Mouth-watering. Crisp. Flavorful. Addictive!

The Garlic Fries at the Poplar Street Pub are the best fries around! Pair them with the French Dip or Grilled Chicken Sandwich and you'll be in heaven! I had the French Dip; toasty soft bread that sops but won't sog with the au jous, mounds of delicious beef, stretchy cheese... it had me picking onions out just for the sake of the onions! The whole thing is portion perfect; fills you up and leaves you with some to go! *wink

Whether you sit in the air conditioned ambiance of the bar or opt for the shaded, misted patio, you can't go wrong. I took a booth in the bar and enjoyed being able to see the sun but not having to be in it.

The service is excellent. The ladies who helped serve me were attentive without hovering, had great things to say about the food (she was going to order the French Dip, but had it last night!) and were helpful when I needed to use the facilities.

For those so inclined, the Poplar Street Pub has 6 local beers on tap, and plenty of other drinks to suit your mood.

They are even "Green-minded": Stickers on the paper towel dispensers remind you that "These come from trees". I used half as much as I normally would, and got to feel good about it!

You should plan a party, go for lunch, order a pizza to go!

MDA Lockup 2009!!

I still need help! I only have less than 17% of my goal!https://www.joinmda.org/2009telethonexeclockup/miranda

Crazy Dreams...

Have you ever had trouble sleeping and you keep waking and going back to sleep? When I do, I get some of the most interesting dreams!

I had one where a bug turned into a Transformer (decepticon of course). Then there were people who were transforming and it was because the allspark had affected mechanical implants like pacemakers or the like... I have not even seen the second movie, but I did watch an episode of Eureka recently where they had an android sherriff...

I had a dream I died. It was a beautifully landscaped park that looked like a cross between the red hills of southern Utah and Memorial Park in SLC. I was wandering around in the middle of an orchestra. I think I had a heart attack, but here's the fun part. I was a ghost! I didn't wake up! I wandered around a hospital where some people could see me, but I was still incorporeal. (I think Nurse Roberts from Scrubs was there) Then... it was like a big house with people I knew there. Not my family, some friends, and some friends I haven't seen in a long time that were like family. One of them seemed upset with me... One of my friends looked more like she had in Jr. High and was wearing inch thick - literally - glasses. Another thing that struck me was that even before I died, throughout everything in this dream there were children frolicking and playing, day or night. Like they were invisible sprites or spirits. Weird.

Well, not the weirdest I have ever had (nothing can compare to the Amish man on a stage that turned into a giant dancing turkey!) but still interesting.

Something I wrote today by the water machine...

The old lady slowly brought the glass to her lips. She'd filled once, sipped and spat out the first cup claiming it was too cold. The second fill was meticulously orchestrated using both hot and cold water intermittently.

"Ah," she cooed as she drew a guzzle at a time, "perfect room temperature!"

I scoffed quietly and she didn't seem to notice. I would have laughed, but she would have viewed that as bad manners.

"It's better for the digestion, you know. No shock to the system either way."

I marvelled at how much joy she could derive from a simple cup of water, both pitying and envying her for it.

I guess the people in my head wanted some 'outside time' lol.

Some Unfinished Business

So I went to the Sugarhouse Arts Festival a couple of weeks ago and have some interesting sites/products/people I said I would post:

www.wix.com/marianapalova/MarianaPalova

The above has some amazing digital art! I loved the way the graphics would bleed and come through the pictures!

http://www.apronsbyjulie.com/

This is one where the ladies make old 50's style inspired aprons. They were so adorable! They reminded me of when a friend of mine in high school tried to start an 'apron fad'!

http://www.mxwclothing.com/

This one was very interesting. They have pants made from bamboo. They are one size fits all and maybe a little pricey, but I like the asian inspired style and they are supposed to last a LONG time. They had some other silk dresses, flowy feminine shirts etc...

https://www.joinmda.org/2009telethonexeclockup/miranda

This one is yet again a plug for my MDA Bail site. Please help me raise money for kid's to go to camp! I have a bail of $2400 and have gotten $30 so far. If you can't help monetarily, please repost and tell others about it! Thank you!

And lastly, I have a sort of 'tip' I suppose. Look into this:

http://www.yourbuzzirkteam.com/?gclid=CNz5vKDb2psCFR0Sagoda2TY_w

I went to one meeting last night where I met the owner, he was showing off his phone... I have a good feeling about it and want to get in now. You're invited and encouraged to join me!

God Bless!

I KNOW A TON OF PEOPLE!!!

If I had 48 people give $50, I would have it! I know I know more people than that!

If 96 people each gave $25, I would have bail... I know more people than that!

Help me out!

Repost!

If you can't donate $25, donate what you can! Every dollar helps!

If I went to jail, would you bail me out?!

https://www.joinmda.org/2009telethonexeclockup/miranda

That's right. I am going to jail 'for good' in August, but you can help!

The phone call was for my co-worker, but I got involved and decided it souded like a great cause and could be lots of fun to joke about! I have to 'raise my bail', so check out the link! Loves!

If we all give a little, it helps a lot!

Repost and tell your friends!

Our Service: Save Souls
The Lord emphasized the worth of each man or woman, youth or child when He declared:
“The worth of souls is great in the sight of God. …
“And if it so be that you should labor all your days in crying repentance unto this people, and bring, save it be one soul unto me, how great shall be your joy with him in the kingdom of my Father!
“And now, if your joy will be great with one soul that you have brought unto me into the kingdom of my Father, how great will be your joy if you should bring many souls unto me!” (D&C 18:10, 15–16).

*******

I have been struggling with this lately. My own testimony and strength have not been so great, but I love my friends and all the people I know and want for them to find the greatest happiness. We talked in church on Sunday about how so many think that missionary work is 'not for them'. Or that the gospel and all that comes with it is 'not for' their friends. We don't want to be labeled churchy, preachy, prudish or otherwise 'too religious'... but when we know the truth, is it not the best to share it? To be bold and proclaim what we DO know, even if it is not everything?

I lost a relative recently. I didn't have a chance to get to know her. I wonder if she will be there when I make it to the other side... And for those that she belonged to, I pray that she will. I make a picture in my mind's eye of those that have passed, all of them together, happy and waiting for us. Praying for us to make the right choices here. I don't want to let them down. I don't want to lose them, or for them to lose me. We are one big beautiful family! I just want to go home!

Relax and Write!

Ramley rambling rambles...

I miss being able to relax. Went camping recently and despite long stretches of sitting and doing nothing more than watching flames crinkle, blacken and finally turn to dust all the interesting things we threw into the fire, I am still finding myself tense and cranky.

I wrote to some family the 'old school' way today. I was writing my grandma a letter because she can gets lonely and wrote a couple other short notes too. Despite email and texting and IM's galore, there is something to be said for a hand-written message, signed and sealed with love.

Wrote a little poem:

Think of rainbows after rain!
Think of flowers in full bloom!
Think of all the world around,
And know...
I think of you!

Do you think Hallmark would like it? lol!

Knowing Just Enough... To Screw It Up.

I accidentally deleted the database I have been working on for the last month. Unrecoverable, because I had the genius to 'save' first. Unfortunately, I saved a blank document, and now that's all the computer knows how to 'recover'. So pissed I could mame something!

My options - start over, hope co-worker who is at lunch knows more than me, shoot the computer and call it a draw.

6-18-09 I just was reading this and realised I never told the outcome. I somehow HID the entire file! It was there, I just couldn't see it. My coworker figured it out and all was as well as it ever is! Lol!

Sleep, sleep, sleep!

Have you ever been awake at night, struggling to sleep and think of something really cool to blog about? You aren't at a computer, you SHOULD be sleeping, so if you get up you will wake up more than you already are. Even to just jump to a journal seems too much of a move when insomnia has you in its grips.
But...
I forgot the cool thing I wanted to blog about :-(

VENTING!!!

This is a message I sent to my Bishop. Aren't you glad you ain't him...

Disclaimer: venting I am struggling with this. I was hoping to get people to say they could come at a certain time and then work around that. Now my mom tells me it is supposed to be raining this weekend, but the place is not ready or we could move some things now. The only people to commit to helping are girlfriends... some with babies, some I would have to pick up, some with cars/trucks but no hubbys to move the heavies! Prolly going to have to move things Saturday too...?

I have Institute tomorrow at 6 and another at 7:45. Also Enrichment is making bread, and my friend Dru is having a kareoke party somewhere before he heads north for the summer. I just want to crawl into a hole and come out when its all done! Should I call you, or Nick and make an appointment? Or the elders quorum pres?? Prolly won't get to check my email till tomorrow if then, because I have this big project at work that is taking longer than it should... Coworkers said they could help, but then who is working?! lol!!!

I would tell people something more definite if I knew something more definite! Don't know how long it will take, there are stairs involved, and locations, and schedules, and vehicles, etc... Sorry... venting.

Need to get out of here (work) and get something done.

Mirandom #2 - Internetz Etiquettes

I keep forgetting to update my photos on my other sites. Is it really that bad to have an old photo? What if you had different hair? Is it somehow deceitful to not have a current picture? It IS still my picture, not a cartoon or anything...

What do you think? What is the internet ettiquette?

PHONE FRUSTRATION!!!

Warning: This is a rant. Not particularly interesting or meaningful. Thank you. You have been warned.

I have had more issues with my phone in the last couple of months... View screens dying, not compatible with back ups, sim card gremlins, and now I just spent two hours getting the pictures off my phone! Had to send to phone album site, then email to self - only 3 at a time! - then save to computer, and had to rename them with the dates. All this because the USB connection decided it will show up... sort of. It says there is a 'Removable Drive F' there, but when I click on it, it tells me I need to plug one in! Although, when I first plugged it in, it told me it detected a new device and that it was ready to use!!

Waaaaah! GAAAH! Grr. Argh.

Miranda Writes Random #1

Intro: I have not had a blog in many years. The last time I was regularly blogging was when I was married. Through the divorce and after, it became a war of words not just with him but his new mistress and even people in other countries who felt it necessary to 'chime in' on his behalf. I abandoned my blog and deemed it a negative. However, in the last year or so I have seen how it can be a positive way to communicate thoughts, ideas and other randomness. And since I need a creative outlet that is more stimulating than just watching shows online or spending all day surfing YouTube... here's what you get!

Old movies and modern ideals

I watched a couple of old classics over Easter holiday. Easter Parade and Singing in the Rain. A strange thing popped into my head. I stared at these great beauties of the past - Anne Miller, Judy Garland, Debbie Reynolds - and thought that they looked kind of chubby! As soon as I'd thought it I realized how absurd it was. But I live in a world of size 2's and even 0's as the ideal. Where emaciation is somehow more desired than healthy and fit. Now granted there are those individuals out there who are just tall and thin by nature and my experience is that they wish they COULD gain weight, but the percentage of the actual population is minute!

So what's my point? Well I know that Heavenly Father's Plan of Happiness involved us coming here to receive a body. I know that there were spirits in the pre-earth life that chose to follow Lucifer and cannot come to Earth to recieve this great blessing. I know they are not banished in the Greek sense to some underworld with no influence in ours. In fact, they have greater and greater influence each day! If you were angry about not receiving a body, wouldn't it make sense to try and get anyone who did to believe how hideous it is, to not take proper care of it, to use it for fornication and lascivious pursuits? If you were trying to bring the bodies down...

I may not be a size 2 - not since I WAS two! - but I can be gloriously gorgeous! I am my own kind of beautiful. Heavenly Father values variety, just look around at the fantastic world he created! He doesn't want us to all fit in the same mold, or He would have made us that way! He wants us to love and appreciate each other for our unique talents and personalities, not get stuck on brand names, technology and who has the most toys!
In closing this ramble I want to speak to anyone who has ever thought they were less because of an unfair ideal:

You are beautiful!
You can be anything if you are willing to put forth the effort!
You are worth loving!
You can give love!
You have the opportunity for great things daily!
You can choose to live in light and happiness!
You are loved! I love you, because I know where we all came from and the potential we have. I know my Father loves you, that you are my brother/sister as surly as the sun shines!
May you find your joy!

God Bless!
